Excel Spreadsheet Downloads

These dynamic Excel spreadsheets retrieve price and volume data over the internet for free.  Data is continuously updated in the spreadsheets and available for the full range of Excel computation and display.

I needed more flexibility in the way price and volume data is presented.  Mainly, I wanted to see more comparisons between indices, stocks and ETF's.  I wanted to combine and average various momentum indicators to get a broader view with charts and the flexibility to change time and price scales.

All this is made possible with XLQPlus.

Download XLQPlus for a free 45 day evaluation.

XLQPlus also imports historical data from Stock Investor Pro (SIP) directly into an Excel spreadsheet.  SIP is a comprehensive historical database of over 8,000 stocks available from the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII), a non-profit organization.  TIP: Join AAII (no affiliation) for a small fee and then purchase SIP.  You get both the membership and the software for less than the cost of the software to non-members.

  • Industries - Requires newsletter subscription and password - It can be accessed via the "Members Archive" link above.  Displays current percentage gains for 215 industries (Yahoo industry classification) for the past 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks.  This spreadsheet allows you to see not only how industries are ranked but also how their rankings are changing - quite unusual.  Macros are available to store daily results and sort each category period using a manual control key entry.  The store macro should be run once daily at the end of each trading day in order to maintain accuracy of historical industry gains.  Because of this time sensitive element, the spreadsheet is updated weekly.  The best time to download it is after 3:00 pm ET on Saturday.  Note: The industries spreadsheet uses a custom function called cor_coeff that needs to be downloaded separately and installed into the spreadsheet.  Instructions for installation are included in the file.  Also download a file name User_functionsA as an alternative way to activate the correlation coefficient function.

  • Companies Displays all the companies in any of the 215 Yahoo industries listed at http://biz.yahoo.com/p/sum_conameu.html .  The spreadsheet provides price, volume, exchanges traded and the percentage price change since any date you provide.  The purpose of the spreadsheet is to provide a broad picture of an industry without having to flip through multiple web pages.  No maintenance.  Last updated 5/9/07.

  • Index Momentum Displays several charts.  The 1st chart displays 3-month percentage gains for the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the NASDAQ composite, S&P 500, NYSE Composite and the Russell 2000.  A 2nd chart displays the Williams %R for each index.  A 3rd  chart displays intraday and 3 month average 5-index Williams %R versus the range of its component values.  Requires XLQPlus.  No maintenance. Last updated: 2/17/07.

  • Market Chart Displays the 4-week chart of the major indices, Sector SPDR’s and key ETF’s that are published in the weekly newsletter. A 1-week chart is included.  Requires XLQPlus.  No maintenance. Last updated: 1/6/07.

  • Stock Chart Displays a 9-month chart of a stock’s closing prices, volume, Slow Stochastic, MACD and Williams %R. Enter the stock symbol.  Requires XLQPlus and Stock Investor Pro.  No maintenance. Last updated: 1/6/07.
